What Makes Us Unique?
- UK Sport and Sport England governance: Our programs are recognized and supported by top governing bodies and our standards are ruthlessly maintained.
- Affordable Training: Benefitting from UK National Lottery funding, we keep our Martial Arts training affordable for everyone and also give a free trial at all clubs.
- Qualified Coaches: We don’t just give coaching awards to anyone with a black belt! All our coaches hold qualifications issued by UK Coaching Certificate (UKCC), under UK sports national curriculum. They also hold first aid certificates, child protection certifications, and have undergone criminal record checks as would be expected.
- Olympic sport: Not only will you learn self-defence, mental resilience and discipline, but participation in a globally unified sport will also provide a vast community and teach sportsmanship!
- No contracts: Enjoy the flexibility of training without being tied down by long-term commitments, you or your child should attend because you want to!
TakeDown Martial Arts works with the British Judo Association as very few Martial Arts or Combat sports, if any, can brag the same unified standards and community as Judo in the UK. Our coaches do it for Passion, not profit!
Judo, meaning “the gentle way,” is a modern martial art and Olympic sport that emphasizes throws, holds, and submissions. Developed in Japan by Jigoro Kano in 1882, Judo focuses on using an opponent’s force against them, making it an effective method of self-defence. It promotes physical fitness through a full-body workout that enhances strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular health. Additionally, Judo fosters mental discipline, concentration, and stress relief. Its emphasis on mutual respect and community creates a supportive and inclusive environment, making Judo an excellent choice for both physical and personal development.
In modern Mixed Martial Arts, it effectiveness has been show repeatedly through world level athletes, attributing to the success of athletes such as Khabib Nurmagomedov (see clip), and Kayla Harrison and Ronda Rousey who are both former Judo Olympic medallists!

SJA is a fantastic club. Our kids are both been going since they were 6/ 7 and they love it – they are now 9 & 11. Max, Lucy, Lewis and all the team are really encouraging – they coach with so much enthusiasm/respect for the sport and love for what they do. They are great role models for the kids and make each of them feel special. We are very lucky to be a small part of this club. Definitely recommend.
My old club while I was living in Kidderminster.. 1998-1999 I was there.. extremely friendly and welcoming and I learned so much from them! If I was still living locally I would definitely still be a member there.. if you live nearby and are interested in Judo I can’t recommend this club enough! Great club!
My son absolutely loves going to Judo every Friday, his self confidence has come on leaps and bounds since starting. It has a real family atmosphere, the coaches are excellent. I can’t recommend this club enough.
My son has been going to beeches martial arts now for 2 years and he absolutely loves it. He has completely came out of his shell an has gained so much confidence it’s unreal. I would highly recommend beeches martial arts to everyone looking on bringing the best out of there children. Five stars from me
Astonishing, especially meeting with Top/Elite Brutish athletes and medalists. Remarkable facility with very welcoming staffs and watching the athletes train is a delight and having to participate in their assessment is an unforgettable experience. Thanks Guys!
I started Martial Arts at 16 and Judo defined me. Without the skill, sportsmanship, confidence and friends I gained from it, I wouldn’t be the same person I am today!
